Welcome – 2009!

PARENTS GROUP NEWS.

Welcome to the 2009 school year. Hopefully you all had a refreshing break and are now ready for the busyness that accompanies a new school year, especially the avalanche of information / permission forms that come home in the first week or two.

This group will meet on the SECOND TUESDAY of each month at the college. The meetings will be at 12.30. We will try to have a night meeting to give those who are unavailable during the day a chance to attend a meeting. We do not meet in the school holidays.

For those who are new to the school, the parents group operates as a sub committee of the college council. As such, there are no office bearers, but the group has a coordinator. Therefore you can attend a meeting without fear of being “roped into” a position. The coordinator is the group’s representative on the college council but any parent can assume this role.

In 2008 most of our income came from the wider community.

Bunnings B.B.Q               $    640.00

Trash and Treasure       $2,000.00

Mothers day stall         $    360.00

Fathers day stall         $    318.00

Plum Puddings                $3,293.00

We also received a grant of $3100.00 from the Jones Foundation to purchase new football jumpers.

We have also applied for a volunteers grant to purchase items to assist the group in it’s role eg catering and gardening equipment. At the time of writing it appears we have been successful, but full details will not be available until school returns.

Some of the purchases our group made in 2008  were ukuleles for grade 6 music classes and storage for maths activity sets.

At our December meeting we made a tentative plan for this year

There will be a Bunnings B.B.Q. on Saturday 28th March. We need at least 10 volunteers to help throughout the day.

In July we plan a Christmas in July or similar event and in September we plan a trivia night. In November the plum pudding production occurs.

We need to see a footy draw before we can set specific dates for a couple of functions and the plum pudding dates are worked around the curriculum timetable. All information is on the newsletters.

Speaking of plum puddings our orders were up by 50 this year so if you can do nothing else for the year, a few hours of your time at this function would be invaluable.

In the next couple of years several of the current members will be facing an ageing issue—-their children’s that is .They will be coming to the end of their school life. Naturally this means the parents will move on as well. Therefore we need to address this issue now, by encouraging parents who still have many years of school life ahead of them, to become more actively involved in the group.

You do not have to attend meetings but you may have other skills to bring to the group eg identifying grant sources, an innovative fundraiser etc.

Our first meeting is on TUESDAY  10TH MARCH AT 12.30.For further information watch the newsletter or to discuss any matter ring Marlene Johnson55606237 .Meeting minutes are displayed on the notice board opposite the office as well as on line.

  3. Next year prior to the debates the parents group will be active in encouraging the students to wear the available blazers

She also has access to a range of suitable food containers which can be purchased with 20% of proceeds coming to the college.Where possible the canteen will

A fundraising idea of “Theme BAskets” was presented.  each class is given a theme or gourmet, pamper, baby etc and each child is asked to bring a figt to the value of $5.00  The baskets are then judged and the winning class earns an end of term party.  The baskets are then auctioned at a function.  We need to think laterally as to how we could do this given the small size of our community.
